Other Occasions
While bagpipes are most popular at weddings and funerals, they
can be played at just about any occasion. Over the years I have
played at a wide variety of events ranging from birthday parties
to golf tournaments. The most common types of events that I play
at are:
- Birthday Parties – play “Happy Birthday” and
other peppy tunes. I can also be a surprise.
- Schools – play in the auditorium and explain to the students
about my outfit and the bagpipes
- Golf Courses – perform by the tee boxes, greens, or
clubhouse. At tournaments I’ll play on the 18th green
when the last group putts out. I will also play at the awards
ceremony.
- Church Services – play a hymn during the service. Some
of the hymns I can play are: “Be Thou My Vision,” “Holy,
Holy, Holy,” “Doxology,” and “Joyful,
Joyful, We Adore Thee.”
- Highland Games and Renaissance Festivals
Some other events I have performed at and the tunes that I usually
play are:
- St. Patrick’s Day – “Wearing of the Green” and
some Irish jigs and hornpipes
- Graduation Ceremonies – “Pomp and Circumstance”
- Bar Mitzvahs and Bat Mitzvahs – “Hava Nagila”
- Christmas Parties – “Jingle Bells” and “Joy
to the World,” along with many other carols
- Baseball Games – “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”
- New Year’s Eve Celebrations – “Auld Lang
Syne”
- Patriotic Events and 9/11 Memorials – “God Bless
America” and “America the Beautiful”
- Robert Burns’ Suppers – “A Man’s a
Man For a’ That”
There are so many different occasions where the bagpipe can add
that special touch. Here is a list of a few other venues where
I have performed over the years:
- Movie Theaters – I played at the premiere of Robert Duvall’s
film “A Shot at Glory” in Virginia
- Radio Stations – including 93.3 The Bone in Dallas,104.1
KRBE & 96.5 The Mix in Houston
- 1992 Republican National Convention – I played inside
the Astrodome and also at a private party for then Governor of
Wisconsin Tommy Thompson
- Prince Charles – played as he was coming off the airplane
to visit Houston in the mid-1980’s
- Television Shows – morning news shows in Houston, Dallas,
Denver, and Cleveland; “The Debra Duncan Show” in
Houston
- Cultural Events such as International Festivals and World Music
Festivals
- Martin Luther King Celebrations
- Camp Retreats
- Hospitals
- Eagle Scout Ceremonies
- Shopping Malls
- Parades
- Restaurants
- Houston City Hall – performed for the City Council on
Tartan Day
- Police Officer and Fire Fighter Memorial Services
- Corporate Functions and Conventions
- Cruise Ships
Jimmy
We were delighted with your playing on New Year's Eve - it really made our
party! Thanks again.
All the best for 2007.

Jimmy,
Thank you for the wonderful Christmas surprise. It was so thoughtful and sweet. There is just no way to tell you how much I enjoyed it or how much it meant to me. You play so beautifully!
